5 Things To Do in Amsterdam
Anne Frank House
One of the most memorable and humbling experiences I had when I was in Amsterdam was walking through the Anne Frank House. In school, I remember reading the Diary of Anne Frank and watching a TV series about the experience. Witnessing the living quarters first hand brought to light how intense it must have been to be hiding the way that they were.
This is absolutely something that you want to plan ahead for. You can only visit the Anne Frank House with a ticket for a specific time slot. Tickets become available every Tuesday at 10am CET for a visit 6 weeks later.
This is very popular so make sure to book your tickets early!

Take a Food & Drink Tour
If you are a foodie like me, you’ll want to take a food tour. The Netherlands is known for dishes such as bitterballen, pickled herring, and Gouda cheese. To get a good background and history of these foods, you’ll want to make sure to take an organized tour.
Get Outside the City
The city of Amsterdam is undoubtedly charming, but you are limiting yourself if you only spend your time here. There are so many quaint cities and things to see in the countryside as well. You can take tours that will bring you to the famous wooden windmills, to a cheese farm, and even to a clog-making workshop!
Take a Bike Tour - If You Are Brave!
Biking is more than a hobby in Amsterdam, it's a main mode of transportation. When you visit the city, you will witness this first hand as bikers whizz past you on their way to work, or to the grocery store. If you are brave on a bike and want to live like the locals do by hopping on a bike, there are some bike tours that will take you to some of the famous stops in Amsterdam.
Do a Canal Cruise
You can’t go to Amsterdam without viewing the city from a boat on the canal. The famous canal cruises are a can’t miss when you are in the city. I personally love doing these after I’ve had a day or two of exploring the city on my own. This way, while you are maneuvering the city via canal, you can see various landmarks that you’ve visited while walking the streets but from a new vantage point!
Here are some canal cruise options for your trip.
